Spine Surgery Research Department of R.R.Vreden Russian Scientific Research Institution of Traumatology and Orthopedics.
The scientific work of the department is aligned with the evaluation of the contemporary treatment, effectiveness of methods, and development of innovative ways for managing spine diseases. This work is performed for the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and also under the auspices of Universal Scientific Institutions and other groups. The results of the researches which take place at the department assemble dissertations of postgraduate students, scientific guidelines and studies, educational standards, scientific publications in medical journals and forming syllabus.

Historically, the majority of the department’s clinical and scientific work is focused on infectious diseases of the musculoskeletal system: primary and secondary osteomyelitis which are common complications of surgical treatment in trauma patients. In this field, the department is rated top among research centers in Russia. Based at the department, an abundance of research projects are taking place for the improvement of patients’ recovery and the evaluation of the need for the installation of implants in an infectious process conditions.
In tandem with the R.R.Vreden Centre, the department is performing researches on the treatment of patients with different spine disorders, including spine tumors.
It’s main task is the scientific assessment and implantation of research results into the teaching and studying process, both into undergraduate as postgraduate levels.
